Electrician's Mate (City and Guilds 3528-06 and 3529-06)

Aim:
The aim of this course is to enable the trainee to acquire a basic knowledge of electrical installation, which will enable him to seek a job as an electrician’s assistant.
Description:
The topics covered during the course are:
• Health and safety procedures related to the industrial environment
• Numeracy skills related to basic electricity
• Identification and proper use of tools relating to electric installation
• Switch gear, consumer units, fuses CSA and rating cables
• Measuring scale, how electricity is created at the Power Station, distribution of single and three phase
• Conductors and insulators, multiples and submultiples, resistance:- colour code, series, parallel, series parallel configurations, Ohm’s Law, power of a circuit
• Cells:- series, parallel, transformers, bell circuits
• ELCB circuit and how it works
• Neon tube circuit
• Colour coding of cables in circuits
• Pipe bending with spring, two way systems with intermediate, chandelier, power circuits, ring and radial
• Earthing
• Testing instruments
• Fault finding
• IEE regulations
• Exam
